The Skins Game Is Back

Golfers of a certain age will remember “The Skins Game,” a Thanksgiving day, silly-season, made-for-television event where popular pros played to win skins in a match play format. (Read more about Golf’s Silly Season here)

The Skins Game series ran from 1983 to 2008, and was popular for what it was.

After a seventeen year absence, the Skins Game is scheduled to return on Black Friday 2025. Watching golf will certainly be a better way to spend your time than fighting mobs at Wal-Mart.

The show will be produced by Pro Shop, the folk behind the Full Swing series.

The Match, which started in 2018, is a rif on the Skins Game.

In skins, holes are assigned different monetary values and the golfer who wins the hole wins the cash. if there is a tie, the money carries over to the next hole.

Fred Couples garnered the nickname “Mr. Skins” for his notable success on the Skins game program. In eleven appearances, he won more than $4 million and 77 skins. He won five of the twenty five Skins Game competitions outright.

The first Skins Game was held at Desert Highlands in Scottsdale. Jack Nicklaus, Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer and Gary Player were the stars on that show.
