The Streak Reaches 58
With a round on Sunday at Washtenaw Golf Club, The Streak is now at 58. That’s 58 consecutive months playing at least one round of golf in Michigan.
Temperatures for the round were in the mid 40s, with winds between 10 and 20 mph. With heavy cloud cover, it was actually quite chilly.
Still, the course was unexpectedly crowded. Washtenaw Golf Club’s tee sheet was nearly full. Faced with the short day, the club actually was sending people off both the front and the back. I’m happy that the pro found a spot for me.
I played very well, at one point reeling off a stretch of five straight pars. The fifth was with a heroic fifty foot uphill putt. I completely botched the 18th, though.
I have to admit, I was a little worried about getting in a December round. An unexpected blizzard in mid November made me think that winter was here to stay. A week later, the snow was gone and courses open again.
January and February will be bigger challenges. Last year, I extended the streak by playing on the 26th of February, which was in a weather lull just ahead of another snow storm.

Congratulations on 58. I hit 58 at Washtenaw, too, but on 12/1. I found the greens to be remarkably smooth and quick for December.
