The Devil Went Down To Georgia - Golf Version

With apologies to Charlie Daniels (one of my favorite musicians), here’s my golf version of his classic tune:

The Devil Went Down To Georgia
He was looking for a soul to steal
He was in a bind ‘cause he was way behind
And was willing to make a deal.

When he comes across this young man
Hitting a niblick and laying it hot
And the Devil jumped up on a hickory stump
And said “boy let me tell you what”

Now you play pretty good golf, my boy
But give the Devil his due
I’ll bet a putter that’s gold
Against your soul
‘Cause I think I’m better than you.

The boy said “My name is Robert”
And it might be a sin
I’ll take your bet
You’re gonna regret
Cause I’m the best there’s ever been.

Bobby tee your ball up high
And swing that driver hard
‘Cause hell’s broke loose in Georgia
And the Devil deals the cards
For if you win you get that shiny putter made of gold
But if you lose, the Devil gets your soul

The devil teed his ball up first
And he said: “I’ll start this show.”
And fire flew from his driver head
As as he drove it long and low.
Then he played a short iron to the green
And it made an evil hiss
And a demon gallery cheered him on
And it sounded something like this …

When the devil finished, Johnny said:
“Well you’re pretty good ol’ son.
“But sit down in that bench, right there,
And let me show you how its done.”

Down the middle, ball on the run
Iron blades flashing in the morning sun
You drive for show but you putt for dough
Two-up, Three-Up
Every hole low

The devil bowed his head because he knew that he’d been beat.
He laid that golden putter on the ground at Bobby’s feet.
Bobby said: “Devil just come on back if you ever want to try again.
“cause I told you once, you son of a gun, I’m the best there’s ever been.”

Down the middle, ball on the run
Iron blades flashing in the morning sun
You drive for show but you putt for dough
Two-up, Three-Up
Every hole low
