The London (Ontario) Free Press has an interesting article on the state of business in the golf industry. Most interesting to me is the bit about the dueling golf retailers: Golf Galaxy, GolfSmith, GolfTown and Forzani. I hadn’t heard of GolfTown, and Forzani turns out to be the corporate name for Nevada Bob’s.
The article doesn’t discuss it, but I particuarly like Golf Galaxy’s recent purchase of GolfWorks, a component design and manufacturing company. GolfWorks was headed by designer Ralph Maltby, and is my second favorite clubmaker’s company. It will be good to have their products in Golf Galaxy stores, where people can get their hands on them. Previously, you could only see the stuff in person by visiting the Columbus, Ohio area, where GolfWorks had two stores.
