This Buick Open Is To Be The Last

Golfweek magazine is reporting that this week’s Buick Open will be the last for the 51 year old tournament; GM and Buick are ending their title sponsorship. The PGA Tour apparently will announce a new title sponsor and location next week.

I really hope there’s a way to keep it in Michigan. It’s a golf-mad state, with more than 800 courses. The Buick is the only professional golf tournament in the state after the earlier departure of the Ford Senior Championship.

  1. Let me expand on my comments yesterday-  I don’t think that GM at this point should be sponsoring any tournaments—but I do hope also that this tournament stays close to where it was.  With the Stanford issues this year, it was awful to think that the St. Jude might be in danger.  FedEx ended up sponsoring, which I am sure that they didn’t want to do right after their first layoff- but it was much more important to the city and the community to keep the tournament as a local success.
