Three Players On The European Tour That Could Be In Contention At The Masters

There are very few events on the golfing calendar that grab the attention quite like The Masters. The major is one of the standout events of the season and has been the competition where some of the biggest moments of the sport have occurred.

This year’s event will take place at a later date this year, and will be held without spectators. However, that will still not take the magic away from what players could expect to achieve at Augusta this year. But, which players on the European Tour could worth a bet with bookies available that use Pay Per Head software? I suspect it could well be the following.

Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy will once again be one of the leaders in the betting when it comes to the major. He will be looking to improve on his eighth place finish in the US Open. McIlroy hasn’t performed in the majors over the past couple of years, as he hasn’t won a major since his success in the 2014 Open. However, he was named the 2018-19 PGA Tour Player of the Year, so he will rightly be among the front runners. He was world number one back in February, but he has since relinquished the top spot to Jon Rahm, who replaced the Northern Irishman at the summit at the end of July.

Louis Oosthuizen

Louis Oosthuizen enjoyed his recent outing at the US Open, as he managed to come back to secure a place on the podium. Oosthuizen is currently in third place in the standings for the Race To Dubai, but his major form always means that he should be in contention. He is now inside the top 20 in the world after that third-place finish, and he could follow that up with another strong showing at The Masters.

His best finish in this major came back in 2012, as he finished in second-place behind Bubba Watson. Oosthuizen last won a major in 2010 as he won The Open, but his performances in The Masters have been impressive. He has finished in the top 25 on five of the eleven occasions that he has been involved.

Jon Rahm

The final European player that will have an excellent chance at success at the Masters is the current world number one, Jon Rahm. Rahm has been a standout player on the tour this season, and reached the top of the rankings after success in the Memorial tournament back in July. His pedigree is unquestionable, as he also held the top spot in the Amateur rankings for a record 60 weeks. The Spaniard was awarded the accolade of European Tour Golfer of the Year last season, but is yet to claim a first major success. This could be his opportunity to change that. His previous best at a major came at the US Open when he finished in third place. His best performance in this major came two years ago as he finished fourth.
