Tiger Vs Phil Betting Props For The Match

I am still undecided as to whether to fork over $20 to see Tiger Vs Phil in “The Match.”  This, frankly would have been a much more interesting event if it had been held ten years ago. As it is, I expect a lot of stupid golf and giggles on a par with the old Thanksgiving Weekend Skins Game. Still, it is likely to be better television than the Bears – Lions game on Thursday, unless you are from Michigan and are a masochist.

In any case, it will be nothing beside the event previously known as The Match, a 1956 contest between the teams of Ben Hogan / Byron Nelson and amateurs Ken Venturi / Harvie Ward at Cypress Point before the Crosby Clambake to settle a bet by Francis Ouimet’s caddy, Eddie Lowry. Compared to that titanic confluence of names, Old Tiger vs Old Phil is nothing. (Read the GolfBlogger’s review of a book on The Match)

I can think of several players that I’d rather see in a match: How about Justin Thomas vs Jordan Spieth? Or Rory McIlroy vs Patrick Reed? Or even Ian Poulter vs Matt Kuchar (I actually think that would be good. Both are smiling killers). I wouldn’t pay twenty bucks for any of those, but I might fork over ten.

Still, curiosity may get the better of me on this one.
