Arcadia Bluffs, Arcadia, Michigan
Michigan is blessed with more than 800 public courses offering a lifetime’s worth of variety and challenge.
Here is The GolfBlogger’s Top 10 Michigan Golf Courses list, chosen from the more than 80 Michigan courses I’ve played and reviewed for the blog. Unlike the big name magazine lists, I can honestly say that I’ve played every course on this list, and most of them more than once. The list includes only public access courses. Clicking on the link will take you to the course review.
Arcadia Bluffs, Arcadia, Michigan
Forest Dunes, Roscommon, Michigan
Treetops Fazio, Gaylord, Michigan
Black Forest, Gaylord, Michigan
Bedford Valley, Augusta, Michigan
Shepherd’s Hollow, Clarkston, Michigan
Plus two you probably can play. I’ve never had any trouble getting at tee time at either of these, although they are ostensibly not public courses.
Forest Akers West, East Lansing, Michigan
University of Michigan Golf Course, Ann Arbor, Michigan
I will note that I have also played and rejected for this list a couple of courses which regularly make the big boys’ Top Ten Public Courses in Michigan courses. My experience with those courses makes me wonder if anyone from the big media golf publications actually has played the courses in question. If they have, I would suggest that their sample size is too small to realize that those particular courses are middlin’ at best.

That is a good list. I agree with your assessment of some of the published lists as far as whether anyone actually played all the courses that should be in the runing.
For example, I recently played Eagle Eye in Bath. It is a nice course but it would not make my top 10 list for Michigan. Yet the experts often include it on lists for MI.
I have played most of the courses on your list. It is a very good list. I always tell people that the Fazio course at Treetops is the best course up there. It is hard to argue with Arcadia as the best public course in Michigan.
