Tradition-Rich Owosso Country Club Hosting 6th GAM Super Senior Championship
OWOSSO – Super golf legends like Arnold Palmer and Walter Hagen have walked the fairways at Owosso Country Club, and the celebrated venue has hosted several tournaments in recent years.
It’s a fitting setting for the 6th GAM Super Senior Championship Tuesday and Wednesday.
A field of 50 GAM golfers over age 65 will compete in the championship, which crowns an overall Super Senior champion and presents a Legends Division for golfers age 70-plus.
Owosso Country Club has hosted several professional and amateur events, including the 1955 and 1965 Michigan PGA Championships and in recent years the GAM Women’s Championship and GAM Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship.
The member-owned private club is located on a bluff along the Shiawassee River and was founded in 1923. The 6,300-yard par 71 course was originally designed by legendary architect Tom Bendelow.
Steve Wakulsky is the director of golf. For more information on the club visit owossocountryclub.com.
Two-time defending champion Ian Harris of Bloomfield Hills is returning, and 2015 champion Terry Moore of Grand Rapids and 2016 winner John French of Santa Monica, Calif., are playing in the Legends Division.
Last year shot a 1-under 71 for 140 and a three-shot win at Battle Creek Country Club. In the Legends Division for golfers age 70 and older Larry Yachcik of Fremont shot 76 for 150 and the win.
