Troon To Manage Detroit’s Three Municipal Courses
Golf management company Troon has been selected to manage the city of Detroit’s three municipal courses: Chandler Park, Rouge Park (pictured above) and Rackham (reviews at the links)
Troon will oversee golf operations, agronomy, food and beverage, sales and marketing.
Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Troon has operational responsibility for nearly 600 18-hole equivalent golf courses. It also manages homeowners associations, private residence clubs, estates and hospitality venues. In all, Troon provides services at more than 900 locations.
In Michigan, Troon currently manages Fellows Creek, Sanctuary Lake, Sylvan Glen, Currie Municipal and Knollwood Country Club. (Reviews at the links. I do not know whether Troon managed Sanctuary Lake and Sylvan Glen when I played there.)
In all though, it sounds promising. Fellows Creek is usually in pretty good shape, and I enjoy playing there with my colleagues from school. I have not played the Detroit courses in recent years, but have heard that previous management companies were lacking.
“The Team at Troon is thrilled and honored to begin our partnership with these three historical gems of the Detroit golf community,” said Troon Vice President of Operations Nick Bednar. “We look forward to elevating the experiences for loyal guests, and to doing our part to grow the game locally in the years to come.”
