TRUE Linkswear Zero Drop OG Cush Golf Shoes Review

TRUE Linkswear Zero Drop OG Cush Golf Shoes Review

TRUE Linkswear Zero Drop OG Cush
Grade: A+
Teacher’s Comments: Instantly comfortable; TRUE should be a go-to for every walking golfer.

TRUE Linkswear recently sent me a pair of their new TRUE Zero Drop OG Cush golf shoes for review.

I will admit to a TRUE Linkswear bias. I have more TRUE shoes than I care to admit (both sent for review and purchased), and wear them not only on the course, but also around town as casual footwear.

I have a pair on my feet right now, and golf was not on my agenda today (hard to believe, I know). They were on my feet every day through my last few years teaching public school (I have since retired).

The OG Cush just might be the best TRUE shoe I’ve tried — and that’s saying something.

The “Cush” is a redesign of TRUE’s original wide toe box, zero drop shoe. Unlike that very first generation (I have a pair of brown ones), they look less like a moccasin and more like a pair of athletic shoes.

That’s a good thing.

One design change I really like is that the tongue and uppers are a bit more elastic, making it easier to get my feet in and out.

In spite of aesthetic changes, the OG Cush stays true to its wide-toe-box, zero-drop roots.

Hiking around a golf course in the OG Cush (as with all of TRUE’s shoes) is an absolute delight. There’s some extra cushion in this model that adds to comfort without reducing my sense of being connected to the ground.

I like feeling the ground beneath my feet. It might be a result of spending much of my childhood running around without shoes. As an adult, I really only switched to wearing shoes in the house as a defense against the bazillion Lego that my boys left scattered in every nook and cranny.

The wide toe box accomodates the inevitable expansion of the feet as you walk. If you have a job where you spend all day on your feet (as in teaching), you’ll recognize the phenomenon of a shoe that fits well at the beginning of the day but is tight on the toes at the end. I’ve tried golf shoes that have a similar result, particularly the more traditional styles.

I also am convinced that the combination of the zero drop and toe-wiggle-accomodating toe box helps with my footwork. I feel looser, and more fluid in TRUE’s zero drop shoes than in more traditional shoes.

The tread on the TRUE OG Cush is strong enough for this moderate-speed golfer. Indeed, I haven’t had any issues with slipping in any of my TRUE shoes. I suppose that it may be the case that really aggressive swingers might prefer something more cleat-like. The fact that the likes of Ryan Moore, Joel Dahman, Mark Hubbard, Ryan Brehm and Chris Kirk are brand ambassador, however, suggest that the treads are good enough for pro level swings.

Christina Kim also is on their pro staff.

I wonder if TRUE would consider signing a pro golf blogger to other staff. I am not particularly good, but I AM enthusiastic.

Another note: these shoes were comfortable from the moment I put them on. There was absoulutely no break-in needed.

TRUE CEO and co-founder Jason Moore says they’ve incorporated many design tweaks based on a decade’s worth of input from customers and PGA TOUR players:

With the new OG Cush, we were able to maintain the design principles of the OG while adding more cushion underfoot to feel even better on long days on or off the course. We also created an attractive-looking all-season shoe and designed the tongue and entry area, so the shoes are easier to get on and off, even for people with wider feet. In truth, it’s the most comfortable and most versatile OG shoe we’ve ever made with a really striking modern, active-lifestyle aesthetic.

Here’s TRUE’s complete list of features for the OG Cush:

  • Zero drop construction for a natural, connected feel
  • Extra wide toe box (up to EEE) for a natural fit
  • All Season wear featuring mixed media, water-resistant, breathable construction
  • Lightweight and Flexible – ensuring a ‘barefoot’ feel
  • NEW OG versatile rubber ‘T’ tread for more coverage and traction on all surfaces
  • NEW Wanderlux Cushioned midsole that looks good on and off the course (6MM of underfoot foam)
  • NEW Comfort Tongue opening, allowing for an easier on-foot experience
  • NEW Heel Padding System

As with all of TRUE’s shoes, these are highly recommended.
