Tuesday Golf Roundup - McIlroy, Long Drive Championship, New Tour Schedule and More

A few random items of interest:

Rory McIlroy has officially called it quits with Titleist. That seems to lend credence to earlier rumors that he will ink a deal with Nike. I don’t see anyone else in a position to offer him the cash he’s going to demand. Still, it would be fun to see a TaylorMade or Callaway steal him away.

Golf Channel and NBC will broadcast the Long Drive Championship in 2013. “Long Drive Championship” month will be in October, and will compose of edited footage from events in September and October. Visit the Long Drivers of America site for more.

The 2013 PGA Tour Schedule is out. The big change—not that it’s news—is that the 2013 season ends after the Tour Championship, and the 2013-2014 season begins in the Fall. I haven’t detected any unexpected sponsorship changes, which is a testament to Tour’s leadership. Stability is good. Another item of note is that there will be a week off between the Tour Championship and the President’s Cup.

St. Leon-Rot in Germany will host the 2015 Solheim Cup. It’ll be that championship’s first time in Germany.
