Turtle Creek Casino Michigan Open Entry Deadline Is May 12

  TRAVERSE CITY – Those planning to test themselves against the state’s top golfers in the Turtle Creek Casino Michigan Open next month take note: The deadline to enter is next week on Wednesday, May 12, at 5 p.m..

 The championship will be played June 14-17 on The Bear course at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in a return to the tournament’s traditional dates and one of its favorite traditional tournament sites. Last year the tournament was delayed until August due to pandemic concerns.

  Registration for this year’s nine qualifiers is on the Michigan Section PGA website (www.michiganpga.com). The entry fees are $180 for amateur golfers, $205 for a Michigan PGA Professional and $355 for a non-PGA professional.

  For the second consecutive year Turtle Creek Casino & Hotel is the title sponsor for the state championship, which is being played for the 104th time.

  Eligibility for the championship is open to all male golfers who have established and maintained a domicile in the state of Michigan thirty (30) days prior to the championship, or any Michigan Section member in good standing having been employed for no less than thirty (30) days at a recognized golf facility prior to the championship 

 The qualifiers by site include: May 18 – Country Club of Lansing; May 19 – Marriott at Eagle Crest, Ypsilanti; May 19 – PGA Member Only Qualifier at Forest Lake Country Club; May 20 – Spring Meadows Country Club; May 24 – MSU Forest Akers West; May 25 – Pheasant Run Golf Club; June 2 – The Moors Golf Club; June 6 – Black Lake Golf Club; June 12 – (3) Spot Qualifier, Traverse City Golf & Country Club (may be used as a first or second attempt).

 The Michigan Section PGA annually conducts the state golf championship. This year’s championship is being played on Jack Nicklaus-designed The Bear for the fourth consecutive year and the unprecedented 32nd time in tournament history.

  Last year Brett White, a 27-year-old mini-tour professional from Caledonia shot a closing 3-under 69 for a wire-to-wire five shot win on The Bear and took home the John D. Standish Trophy and a $16,000 first-place check. Alex Scott, a Traverse City mini-tour professional and former bag attendant at the resort, made the local gallery happy with a final 70 for 7-under 281 and second place.

  The championship annually attracts the top professional and amateur golfers from Michigan and its list of winners includes Michigan Golf Hall of Famers Walter Hagen, Al Watrous, Chuck Kocsis, Walter Burkemo, Dave Hill, Jeff Roth and Scott Hebert.
