US Mint Launches Pictured Rocks Quarter

US Mint Launches Quarter Celebrating Michigan's Pictured Rocks

In February, the US Mint adds Michigan’s Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore to its America The Beautiful Quarters program. The Pictured Rocks Quarter is one of five new coins released this year.

The official launch ceremony will be held Feb. 7, 2018 at Mather Elementary in Munising, Michigan. Munising is the launch point for the wonderful Pictured Rocks boat trips that give visitors their best views of the shore.

The GolfBlogger family took the tour a couple of summers ago. The lakeshore, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, along Lake Superior, is absolutely beautiful.

The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore quarter is the 41st in the Mint’s America the Beautiful Quarters Program. This 12 year initiative will eventually honor 56 national parks and other national sites authorized by Public Law 110-456.  Five new national sites will be released each year in the order in which the national sites were officially established.

I highly recommend a trip to Pictured Rocks. You can get some golf in the Upper Peninsula as well. The fabulous Greywalls Golf Course in Marquette (Greywalls Golf Course Review at the link) is an hour’s drive. Timberstone Golf Course, in Iron Mountain, is worth the drive (Timberstone Golf Course Review at the link). Finally, Sweetgrass, in Harris, is a terrific resort course, and a sister course, Sage Run will open in 2018 (Sweetgrass Golf Course Review at the link). On my Upper Peninsula golf trip, I stayed at the Island Resort and Casino in Harris, and just resolved myself to the long drives to the other locations. It’s beautiful country — “God’s Country,” as they say Up North.
