Here are the pairings for the 2013 US Open At Merion. The premier groupings are Tiger, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott, the numbers 1, 2 and 3 players in the World Golf Rankings. Another great one to follow will be Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker and Keegan Bradley. This might be Mickelson or Stricker’s year. I think the course fits them. That’s also a very friendly grouping, whereas it strikes me that feelings in the “premier” group might be a little tense. I also like the Bubba Watson, Dustin Johnson and Nicholas Colsaerts grouping. Scary long, that bunch.
The USGA is known for its little inside jokes in its pairings. Can you see any here?

No doubt Tiger, Rory and Adam will attract much of the attention for the first two days.
I agree I think it could release the pressure on some lesser known groups who might end up upstaging them.
