The LPGA’s Volunteers of America Classic launched in 2013 as the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout. The tournament had two cuts — after the second and third rounds — to create a more dramatic weekend.

The current, non-shootout format features 144 players with a 36 hole cut of the top 70 and ties. The 2019 edition also dispensed with the tournament’s previous tradition of including high school and college amateurs.

The Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic is played at The Old American Golf Club at The Colony, Texas. The Colony is a city in the suburbs of Dallas.

The Old American Golf Club plays at 35-36—71, 6,475 yards.

Founded in 1897, Volunteers of America is a nonprofit that provides affordable housing and other services to low income people throughout the United States. The faith-based organization was founded by the son of the founder of the Salvation Army, Ballington Booth, and his wife, Maud.

The Volunteers of America Classic has gone through a number of name changes in its existence. It has been the North Texas LPGA Shootout (2013 – 2014), the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC (2015), the Volunteers of America Texas Shootout Presented by JTBC, the Volunteers of America LPGA Texas Classic (2018) and in its current incarnation (2019 – present), the Volunteers of America Classic.
