Wayne County Golf Course Reviews

This is a list of 33 Wayne County, Michigan golf courses I have played and reviewed. I included Rackham because, although it is actually in Oakland County, it is owned by the city of Detroit. Hickory Creek is right on the border between Wayne and Washtenaw, so I will include it in both county lists. New Rogell and the Woodlands are closed, but I included them for history’s sake.

The Inn at St. Johns is undergoing a major renovation by noted golf architect Ray Hearn. It closed in 2022 and will reopen for general play in 2024.

My favorite public course on the list is probably Lakes of Taylor, but I also think Glenhurst has a lot of charm. I’ve played quite a few rounds at Fellow Creek; it was the home course for the high school golf teams I coached. I like the South and East nines; the West is a little tight for my tastes.

I found the three Livonia courses — Fox Creek, Idyl Wyld and Whispering Willows — to be pleasant. I played quite a bit at Hickory Creek in a teacher’s golf league; it can be tough. I played in another league at Hilltop; it’s qot some quirky holes and I never really warmed to it, but I like the back nine better than the front.

Inkster Valley has potential, but was a disaster the last time I played, with trees growing in the bunkers. I don’t think there’s any hope for Harbour Club.
