There will be a lot of things to do at the 2016 West Michigan Golf Show, which opens at 2 pm on Friday, Feb. 12 at the DeVos Place in Grand Rapids. A few highlights:
Ladies’ Night is Friday and offers special events and giveaways just for women. The first 500 women on Friday receive a special goodie bag.
At the Applied Imaging Seminar Stage, the Golf Show welcomes Michael Breed, the 2012 National Teacher of the Year and host of the acclaimed The Golf Fix weekly TV series. Breed’s presentations are on Friday and Saturday. Other teachers include Jason Guss, 2013 Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year, and Treetops’ Joe Charles.
The most popular attraction remains the Treetops Par-3 Challenge. It’s where patrons compete for prizes and a chance at a $25,000 ace at a fully landscaped golf hole while raising funds for charity. With a large grandstand nearby, it’s a fun place just to watch the action and inaction (whiff!).
Parents and kids love the PGA Family Fun Zone where activities include: taking a swing at Golfzilla, a large inflatable target; clinics from The First Tee; and miniature golf. Plus the latest info on junior golf including the PGA Junior League and the Drive, Chip & Putt Championship.
Benefitting First Tee of West Michigan, there’s a Saturday morning pancake breakfast ($6/adults & $4/kids) starting at 9 AM in the Grand Gallery at DeVos Place.
“Try before you buy” is the mantra at the new Ferris State PGA Golf Management Club Testing Area where many top club manufacturers will have the latest equipment for patrons to hit.
Stop at the Bridgestone Golf Ball-Fitting Challenge booth and discover the best ball for your swing speed and game. And the first 200 patrons entering the Show each day receive a sleeve of Bridgestone e6 golf balls.
Need more golf balls? Renew or sign up for a Golf Association of Michigan membership and get a new sleeve as a bonus. Learn about GAM Golf Days— fun, casual one-day events at exclusive Michigan golf courses, public and private.
Courtesy of the Michigan P.G.A., golf pros are giving free lessons all weekend, providing patrons with golf tips to start the season on the right (soft-spiked) foot.
Retail outlets and golf courses offer an unmatched shopping experience for clothing, equipment, shoes, accessories and more. Bring your wallet or purse but no bitcoins!
Vacation planners will visit booths by Sunbelt destinations and Michigan’s top golf resorts with their pre-season values and special tee times.
Feeling lucky in support of a good cause? Buy a $20 raffle ticket at the Michigan Golf Hall of Fame booth and earn a chance to play Crystal Downs, Oakland Hills or Forest Dunes.
