WGC Cadillac Championship Second Round Highlights and Thoughts

imageIt sounds like one of those funny horror movies: Bubba Tames The Monster. But that’s exactly what happened. Bubba Watson shot an insane 62 on his way to the top of the leaderboard.

He wasn’t the only one going low, though. Justin Rose and Martin Kaymer shot 64s. Peter Hanson and Bo Van Pelt each shot 65. Webb Simpson and Hennie Otto shot 66. Tiger clawed his way back into the conversation with a 67, as did Keegan Bradley, Charles Howell III, Jason Day, KJ Choi, Matt Kuchar, YE Yang, Lee Westwood, John Senden and Graeme McDowell.

The theme I see here is that there is so much more talent on the tours than, say, five or six years ago. Tiger shoots a 67 at the Blue Monster, and it’s only tied for the seventh best round of the day. Further, there are nine players who played exactly as well as he did.

For me, that means this season is shaping up to be a great one. Real competition is what makes sports interesting.
