Who Are The Bookmakers’ Favorites For The Majors This Season?

The majors season is fast approaching, which means sports betting fans will be immediately looking to get the best possible prices on their picks for the tournaments. There were some big surprises during the majors last season, and gamblers with Betway will be hoping that they can identify these surprise winners before the majors begin.

The Masters

The opening major of the season was one of the most memorable in 2019, as Tiger Woods capped an unbelievable return with his first major success in eleven years. Betway currently doesn’t give Woods much hope of reclaiming the honor, with Rory McIlroy the outright favorite. The rest of the field, including Brooks Koepka, are all double-digit prices.

The Masters is still the only major that has eluded McIlroy, but he will go into the competition in good confidence after reclaiming the top spot in the world rankings. There could be some value elsewhere in the market with Justin Thomas having started 2020 strongly with five top-ten finishes from the first eight events that he has competed in.

PGA Championship

Betway make the current champions Brooks Koepka the favorite for the 102nd PGA Championship. There will be various in-play markets throughout this competition, and Betway live sports betting are by far the preferred option. At present, Betway make McIlroy the second favorite and Dustin Johnson, the third favorite.

Koepka will be the preferred pick for most bettors, as he already illustrated last season that he is capable of excellence at this major. The 29-year-old will be hoping for a third PGA Championship win in a row, which would make him only the second player to achieve that after Walter Hagen between 1924 and 1926. Koepka also holds the record for the lowest absolute score over 72-holes at the PGA Championship. He looks like a solid bet with Betway.

U.S. Open

The most lucrative of the majors takes place in June, and Gary Woodland will be heading into the competition as the reigning champion. However, Betway doesn’t offer him much chance of reclaiming the honor as he is currently priced at 50/1. The heavy favorite at present in McIlroy, but that could be set to change depending on his form throughout the season before June.

Due to the difficulty of the U.S. Open, there could be value elsewhere in the market, especially if you’re looking for each-way value. Xander Schauffele could offer value as he has finished in the top ten for the past three years. He is currently valued at 22/1 by Betway and could be a popular pick.

The Open

The Open in July will bring the curtain down on the majors season. The defending champion heading into the tournament is Shane Lowry, who shocked many by winning The Open in 2019. The event in 2020 will return to Royal St George’s Golf Club for the 15th time. There have been changes to the course since the last competition held here in 2011, with changes to the bunkers on the 7th, 17th and 18th holes.

Lowry has a much lower price with Betway for this year’s competition, as he is priced at 40/1. The current favorite for the major is Koepka, while McIlroy, Johnson and Jon Rahm are the next in the betting. The major has been won by a European player for the last two years, while European players have also won three of the last four. Tommy Fleetwood finished second in last year’s event and could present each-way value. He has averaged the second-highest driving distance of the season so far this year as has averaged 328. He is currently valued at 22/1 with Betway and could be a popular pick.
