WVU Golf In Action This Week

wvu marker-5863MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 6, 2016) – West Virginia University golfer John Ransone and Alan Cooke are in action this week during the NCAA golf offseason. Ransone Ransone competed in the 2016 U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio, on Monday while Alan Cooke is currently participating in the 97th West Virginia Amateur Presented by Mercedes-Benz at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Paired with Gordon Vietmeier and the PGA TOUR’s Brian Stuard, Ransone carded a two-round score of 78-78=156 to finish 16 over par and in 54th place. He birdied one hole in his first round before adding three more in the final 18 holes. The top four finishers advanced to the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.

Cooke is tied for third place after one round at the West Virginia Amateur. The Parkersburg native birdied a pair of holes on the front nine, then added another on the back nine to finish with a score of 72 for even par. Cooke will tee off on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the second of four rounds. The tournament consists of 72 holes across four rounds and runs from Monday through Thursday, though players must make the cut to compete in the final two rounds.
