Classic Stars At The Pebble Beach Pro Am

The AT&T Pro Am was known for most of it’s life as the Bing Crosby Pro-Am. A major star in the mid-20th century, Bing was able to attract the biggest names of his day to his pro-am. The event started as a small golf outing in 1937, in which Bing put up $10,000 of his own money. After the golf, Bing invited his friends and the pros to a clambake.

The event became known as the Crosby Clambake.

Here are a few of the classic stars at the Pebble Beach Pro Am

Dean Martin, a classic crooner, actor and member of Frank Sinatra’s Rat Pack.

Jack Lemmon and Tennessee Ernie Ford. Lemmon starred in such classic films as Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Mister Roberts (1955 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor), Days of Wine and Roses, The Great Race, Irma la Douce, The Odd Couple, Save the Tiger (1973 Academy Award for Best Actor), The Out-of-Towners, The China Syndrome, Missing, Glengarry Glen Ross, Grumpy Old Men and Grumpier Old Men. Ford was a country singer perhaps best known for his song, Sixteen Tons.

Glen Campbell, one of the best known artists of the 1960s and 1970s. Among his biggest hits were “Gentle on My Mind”, “By the Time I Get to Phoenix”, “Wichita Lineman”, “Galveston”, “Rhinestone Cowboy”, and “Southern Nights”. He won four Grammy Awards in 1967.

James Garner, star of The Rockford Files, and also of one of my favorite movies, “Support Your Local Sheriff.”

Sean Connery. Nothing more needs to be said.

Ray Bolger, from the Golden Era of Hollywood. He is perhaps most famous for his role as the Scarecrow in The Wizard of Oz.

Sandy Koufax, Hall of Fame Pitcher
