Pierce Lake is the municipal course for Washtenaw County, Michigan. A woods and marsh course typical of southeastern Michigan, it is one of my favorites to play in the fall. There is plenty of fall color, and yet the maintenance crews manage to keep the fairways relatively leaf free.
Pierce Lake was designed by Harry Bowers and built in 1996. Bowers, a Michigan State graduate, worked for many years under Robert Trent Jones, Sr., and has a long list of credits. Among those: assisting in the renovation of Oakland Hills (see my photo tour of Oakland Hills here), the Robert Trent Jones course at Treetops (with RTJ), Crooked Tree in Petoskey, Michigan (Crooked Tree review), and the Captain’s Club at Woodfield (Captain’s Club review).
