Karrie Webb Back In Spotlite

Karrie Webb has been the forgotten superstar on the PGA Tour. A couple of rough seasons, and the rise of the young guns have all but relegated her to obscurity. But it’s worth remembering that over the past 11 seasons, she’s the only person other than Annika Sorenstam to hold the number one spot.

Webb was the women’s world number one in three of her first five years, and completed a career grand slam faster than any golfer in history—including Tiger Woods. During the 1999 and 2000 seasons, she won 13 times including three majors and finished in the top three at 27 of her 47 events.

Then she suffered a Duvall-like crash, plummeting from the heights to relative obscurity. She persevered, however, and her victory at the Kraft-Nabisco (Dinah Shore) has convinced many that she’s back.

It can only be a good thing for women’s golf.

There’s a good article on Webb’s comeback at ABC Sports.
