Lightning Damages Texas Golf Course Greens

If you are a Texan golfer you have no doubt heard about the lightning storm on Tuesday May 17^th, which hit the 15^th hole of Weeks Park Golf Club. The lightning hit the greens and has left a rather cool, but disturbing mark on the ground. The lightning strike reportedly took place sometime between 3:30 -4:00 in the morning. Thank goodness no one was out on the greens at the time, as the lightning strike would have been fatal. Unfortunately there is no safe place to hide from lightning out on the golf course greens, and the only safe place would be indoors.

So the next time you are out on the golf course greens and a storm hits –do not be stubborn. Go indoors! I know it is frustrating to have to put your game on hold, but your life really is at stake in this instance. In the event of a thunderstorm that can precede lightning, pack up your clubs and head indoors to the clubhouse. Hopefully your local golf club has a good on-site restaurant where you can enjoy a beer and a steak while the storm subsides. You will undoubtedly be highly annoyed with the situation, but not all is lost. As a golf enthusiast, you are probably a fan of some other sports too. Do not lie down on the greens, or try to find shelter under a lone tree, as this could be dangerous. In addition, make sure that you stay away from any bodies of water on the golf course, as well as any power lines or barbed wire fences that could conduct electricity.
