Here’s a photo video montage from my August 2021 round at Oakland Hills’ famed South Course.
In 2019, Oakland Hills closed the South course for a nearly two-year, $12 million restoration under the guidance of noted architect Gil Hanse. The goal was to return the course to the intent of the original Donald Ross design. Hanse and his crew removed hundreds of trees, widened fairways, recreated bunkers and greens to the original specifications, moved tee boxes and restored a creek. The club also had Precision Air subsystems installed under the greens to allow the precise control of temperature and moisture levels. I think the result is stunning. Y
