One of six surviving golf trophies from the 1906 Olympic games is up for sale at Green Jacket Auctions. Though the Olympic Games is now famous for awarding gold, silver, and bronze medals, back in 1904 the vast majority of prizes were trophies.
With golf returning to the Olympics for the first time in 112 years, interest in the original trophies has grown. The owner had not realized the trophy’s value, and of potential interest in the collecting community.
The trophy is expected to go for at least $50,000 at auction. Bidding is now open and will conclude on August 20.
Other golf items in the auction include Jack Nicklaus’ PGA Championship “Player Trophy” and an original Green Jacket from an Augusta National member.
