Tiger To Miss Genesis and Honda With Back Issues

Tiger To Miss Genesis and Honda

Tiger Woods will miss the Genesis and Honda due to back spasms. From his website:

“My doctors have advised me not to play the next two weeks, to continue my treatment and to let my back calm down,” Tiger said. “This is not what I was hoping for or expecting. I am extremely disappointed to miss the Genesis Open, a tournament that benefits my foundation, and The Honda Classic, my hometown event. I would like to thank Genesis for their support, and I know we will have an outstanding week.”

This is not good news for those thinking this would be Tiger’s comeback year.

It also seems to me to be bad news for TaylorMade, which was no doubt banking on Tiger making enough appearances with their equipment in hand to make whatever investment the company has pay off. A rumor floating around says that Tiger originally came close to an agreement to pay Mizuno clubs, but that the deal faltered over Mizuno’s insistance that he be paid on a per-appearance basis.

If true, it would seem that Mizuno had some foresight.

I hope Tiger gets better. As someone with back issues, I wouldn’t wish them on anyone.
