I put in a lot miles on the golf course. During the summer, I typically play five days a week; sometimes I’ll put in 36 a day. The only time I ride is if a course doesn’t permit walkers — and I avoid those courses.
Having great shoes (and great socks) is a necessity for walking all those miles without blisters or foot fatigue. When playing 36, I change shoes between rounds to keep the insoles springy.
More and more, my go-to shoes are made by True. They absolutely are designed with the walking golfer in mind.
My most recent pair from True are their OG Feel Camo model. With a knit upper, zero drop outsole and flexible sole, they are as close to playing barefoot as I can imagine. On particularly hot days, I wouldn’t want to wear anything else.
One knock I’ve heard about the treads on hybrid spikeless shoes is that they don’t offer enough stability. I’ve found that the tread on the TRUE OG Feel provides enough stability and grip for my not-so-fast swing.
True shoes also are played by tour players such as Ryan Moore, Joel Dahmen and Chris Kirk, so I imagine they also will hold up to much faster ones as well.
I think that the flexibility of the soles actually improves my footwork in my swing as well. I can really feel the interaction between the ground and my feet. I have this sense that I turn better through the swing when wearing the True shoes.
That’s a big deal because turning through the swing is a particular bugbear of mine.
The “camo” in the True OG Feel Camo is a subtle pattern in the leather saddle. It’s sharp. The dash of yellow on the tips of the laces is a nice accent to the otherwise understated colors.
Actually, there’s quite a lot of understated design in these shoes. As you can see in the photo at top, there is an interesting pattern to the knit; “True” is embroidered on the lace holder, and stamped in the leather heel piece; the camo is done in shades of grey. It all holds together well.
A cool thing about True is that rather than arriving in a box, their shoes are sold in reusable containers. One pair I have arrived in a string backpack. Another came in a useful canvas bag. This particular pair was in a reusable zippered shoe bag.
True Linkswear OG Feel: Recommended.
