WVU Duo T-10th at Mountaineer Intercollegiate

wvu marker-5863BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (October 20, 2015)Senior Easton Renwick and Max Sear represented the West Virginia University golf team in the top-10 of the inaugural Mountaineer Intercollegiate at Pete Dye Golf Club on Tuesday afternoon in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

 “Having two players in the top-10 in these conditions, which were very difficult, was good to see,” said WVU coach Sean Covich. “Max and Easton have been our leaders on and off the golf course all year so, it’s no surprise to see them lead us here.”

 Renwick rebounded from a tough first round to shoot 69 for a two-round score of 79-69=158 for four over par. He recorded five birdies in the second round to move up 36 spots in the rankings. Sear also shot four over for 158, carding a 75 in the second round. He previously shot a 73 on the first day of action.

 Penn State posted a team score of 294-291=585 for nine over par to win the tournament, which was shortened to 36 holes due to weather concerns. UConn took second place with a score of 295-300=595 (+19) while Mississippi State was third with a 308-288=596 (+20). The Mountaineers took 10th place with a score of 305-302=607 for 31 over par, while in-state rival Marshall was 13th at 301-314=615 (+39).

 Chris Williams tied for 37th place, shooting seven over in the final round. He finished with a two-day score of 74-79=158 for 14 over par. Avery Schneider tied for 60th, shooting a 79 on both days for a final score of 158 for 14 over par, while Alan Cooke shot 80-81=161 for 17 over par. He finished in a tie for 69th place.

 Playing as individuals, Mason Short and Cole Hand tied for 31st place at eight over par with scores of 152. Short carded a score of 73-79, while Hand registered a 78-74 with four birdies across the final 18 holes.

 Tae Wan Lee was 43rd overall with a score of 78-76=154 for 10 over par. Jon Ransone shot 82-83=165 (+21) to finish tied for 75th, and Tristan Nicholls was 77th with a score of 91-80=171 (+27).

 The Mountaineers head to Vero Beach, Florida, on October 26-27. They will be compete in the Quail Valley Intercollegiate, hosted at the Quail Valley Golf and River Club.
