Golf News Roundup Jan 15, 2022

Golf news for this week includes items from Honma, Fore! Sixty Podcast, XXIO and Srixon.

There is sure to be lots more in coming weeks as the PGA Show approaches.

Honma Unveils BERES Aizu and Black Collections

Honma Golf has launched its new BERES Aizu and Black collections, the latest in the company’s high-end line of game-enhancing golf equipment. The clubs are designed to promote straighter, longer ball flight and increased ball speed.

Drivers feature triple sole slots and an L-Cup face for powerful initial ball speed. Optimal center of gravity (CG) design enables high trajectory, low spin, forgiveness, and distance. The draw bias helps correct fade tendencies associated with modest swing speeds.

Fairway woods and hybrids also feature the new triple sole lot, thin crown, flexible face, and low-CG weight distribution designed independently for each head. Every wood offers ample speed, high launch, and easy-to-play draw-biased forgiveness.

Fore! Sixty Is New Podcast For Golfers 60+

The new Fore! Sixty Podcast Show aimed specifically at golfers sixty and over.

The podcasts are hosted by Fore! Sixty’s Jim Plumb and will include mid-segment golf tips by Fore! Sixty’s resident Hall of Fame Teaching Pro Mike Wydra.

Guests include the father of golf metrics, US Golf Labs Gene Parente, Katherine Roberts, author of Yoga for Golfers, Dr. Mona Mofid, Director of the American Melanoma Foundation; Gavin Dear, Managing Director of golf shot aggregator Shot Scope, diabetes and golf expert Charlie O’Connell and many more.

Each segment will be about twenty minutes and are now available free on leading podcast platforms including Stitcher, Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts.

According to Fore! Sixty co-founder Jim Plumb: “We’re on a mission to connect and engage with avid mature golfers so they can lower their scores and derive the optimal enjoyment from this often frustrating game we love.  Ours is a wide, holistic approach because the game for older golfers is different, often more meaningful socially and encompasses a variety of issues including slower swing speeds and various age-related health conditions. We believe this will be 20 minutes well spent for golfers sixty and over who share our passion for the game”.

XXIO Introduces the Next Generation of X

The new XXIO X, which the company says will appeal to “skilled players,” officially launches in North America on Feb. 11, 2022.

“XXIO X has the DNA of every XXIO product – lightweight and easy to swing. However, it’s tuned to the more accomplished player,” said Brian Schielke, General Manager at XXIO. “More compact irons, lower spinning woods, and stiffer shafts make X a great choice for better players looking to increase their speed and experience the benefits of XXIO.”

The entire line features what XXIO calls “ActivWing” which is designed to improve aerodynamics at the start of the downswing to stabilize the clubhead and tighten up the impact pattern.

XXIO’s Rebound Frame and Flat Cup Face is designed to allow the new X line of clubs to effectively transfer energy into the golf ball at impact. Rebound Frame consists of four alternating layers of stiff and flexible zones that, when activated at impact, enhance overall COR. Meanwhile, the Flat Cup Face flexes significantly at impact for even more power and distance.

Designed to appeal to accomplished players, the XXIO X line featues aggressive looks, premium feel, and stouter shafts in lightweight, easy-to-swing clubs.

Srixon Introduces the All-New Z-STAR DIAMOND

Srixon’s new Z-STAR DIAMOND golf balls officially launch in North America on Jan. 21, 2022.

Srixon says that new Z-STAR DIAMOND was one of the primary factors in bringing new Team Srixon staffer Brooks Koepka on board. Koepka immediately put the ball in play at Capital One’s The Match on November 26th.

Key Technologies:

  • FastLayer Core: The new FastLayer Core starts soft in the center and gradually becomes firm around its edge, it gives high-speed players exceptional feel and plenty of ball speed for maximum distance.
  • SpinSkin with SeRM: A new, thicker thermoplastic urethane cover features SpinSkin with SeRM, a durable coating with flexible molecular bonds. It digs deep into wedge and iron grooves, maximizing spin for more control and stopping power.
  • 338 Speed Dimple Pattern: The new 338 Speed Dimple Pattern delivers less drag and more lift boosts overall distance and flies true, even in the toughest wind conditions.

XXIO Offers Rebound Drive Balls

The new XXIO Rebound Drive golf balls provide the versatile performance that golfers demand to handle every situation out on the course.

These golf balls feature XXIO’s proprietary Rebound Frame Technology, which interposes areas with high and low rigidity to produce just the right amount of flex for higher initial ball speeds along with a pure feel at impact. It’s distance, feel, spin, and all the performance needed in one new golf ball offering from XXIO.
