Kickstarters For Golfers – March 5, 2018: New crowdfunding golf projects this week include a golf practice app, a golf statue and a laser alignment tool.
Shot Caller Golf Mobile App
The Pitch: The app randomizes your golf practice by asking you to pull off specific shots such as you would encounter on a real golf course.
Why I Might Be Interested: Driving ranges bore the heck out of me. With this, I might just be interested
Why I’m Holding Back: I own an Android phone, and the app is for iOS. An Android app will only be created if more than $25,000 is raised. Given that Android phones comprise 90% of the global market in phones, the creator is leaving a lot of money on the table.
Bocomotion Golfer Statue
The Pitch: It’s a carved wood statue of a golfer, created to reflect the designer’s — and hopefully your own — passion for golf.
Why I Might Be Interested: I like the animation style.
Why I’m Holding Back: I don’t need another knick knack sitting around in the house.
Meanwhile, on Indiegogo …
Bebrassie Golf App
The Pitch: The Bebrassie App tracks your shots and collects data like a Arccos or Game Golf, without the club tags. Bebrassie apparently uses the smartphone’s internal sensors to determine when you’re taking a shot.
Why I Might Be Interested: One of my golfing goals for this year is to collect some meaningful data about my game. The Bebrassie looks as though it would be a pretty seamless for data collection.
Why I’m Holding Back: $300 for a lifetime subscription is too steep for my pocketbook.
SQRDUP Alignment Tool
The Pitch: SQRDUP (Squared-Up) uses lasers to set alignment for practice.
Why I Might Be Interested: I like the idea of being able to set the club and ball right on the alignment lines — something you can’t do with alignment sticks.
Why I’m Holding Back: Alignment sticks are $120 cheaper.
And there are still few in the pipeline mentioned in the last post.
Burton Putters Performance Training Mat
The Pitch: The creators are selling this on the strengths of the high quality materials, and the markings which are designed to help players develop their awareness of speed and line.
Why I Might Be Interested: Putting is one area of the golf game that I can practice all year round here in Michigan
Why I’m Holding Back: I have a room with a pretty good carpet.
Straight Shot Pro
The Pitch: The weight is designed to force the club head to stay straight at impact.
Why I Might Be Interested: Who doesn’t hook and slice?
Why I’m Holding Back: If it was this simple, every major manufacturer would have done it by now.
