Courtney Novak, of the DeWitt, Michigan Panther Girls Golf Team is up for athlete of the week for the Lansing State Journal.
It is good to see a golfer recognized in a season dominated by football. Even better, in my mind, is seeing a female golfer recognized.
Courtney and the Dewitt Panthers Girls Golf Team won regionals this year, and Courtney finished runner up for the lowest score.

I coached the John Glenn High School girls’ golf team for several years, and a couple of my players ended up with college scholarships. I’m quite proud of that.
Junior girls deserve the support of every golfer because they are essential to a sound future for the sport. Women are 51% of the population and 20% of the golfers. Increasing the percent of female participation in the sport by just a couple of percentage points will ensure the game we love continues into the future.
