Man Killed On Michigan Course

Sad story: On Sept. 30, windy conditions at Michigan’s Dunes golf course blew a tree on top of man walking between the first and second holes, killing him instantly. Bruce Florine, 54, of Chicago, was a consultant to the PGA Tour.

This is the second wind related accident I’ve heard about this season. Earlier this summer, a playing partner told me the story of a tree that fell on a golf cart during a wind storm at Calderone Golf Club near Grass Lake. Luckily, no one was seriously injured in that incident. I saw the tree, though, and can’t believe that the golf cart was the only thing crushed.

A lesson to be learned here: you need to be as aware of high winds as you are of lightening. “Weather” in the out-of-doors is always a serious thing.
