In the recent Michigan state budget deal, golfers escaped a tax on golf services, including greens fees. Skiiers, however, did not fare so well: They’re going to be included in the new 6% tax on services that the state has imposed to help resolve a $1.75 billion deficit.
In all, the State Treasurer identified 23 “non-essential” services to be hit with the new tax, including investment planning, and landscaping. Essential services, such as plumbing and auto repair are exempt.
Golf, apparently, is essential.
But we already knew that.
