GAM Girls Championship Continues At Washtenaw

The second round of the Golf Association of Michigan’s Girls Championship is underway at Washtenaw Golf Club.

It is the first of a full season of championship events from the GAM. In the next few weeks, the GAM will run Michigan Amateur Qualifiers on May 8, 12, 15, 17, 18, 23, 25 and 27. GAM Senior/Mid Amateur Team qualifiers are on May 15 and 22.

Washtenaw Golf Club has kicked off the season for the last five years with the GAM Junior Kickoff. This year, however, the GAM split that event in two to accommodate the MHSAA golf seasons. The girls play in their spring off-season; the The GAM Junior Boys’ Championship has been moved to August 20-21, 2024 and also will be held at Washtenaw.

“This allows our junior golfers a playing opportunity when they are less likely to have conflicts and makes room for a larger field as junior golf continues to grow,” Ken Hartmann, senior director of competitions and USGA services, said.

For the GAM Girls Championship, Washtenaw will play to 5, 701 yards. The 15 and under group will play at 4, 896.

As with Saturday, it was quite cold in the morning. On the plus side, the winds from Saturday have disappeared. On the minus side, it is cloudy.

It is going to be another tough day.

I’ll have an update on results later today.
