Teacher’s Comments: Would make a nice gift for a golfer in your life
The Golfers’ Book of Wit and Wisdom is a collection of 350 quotes and quips about the game of golf. The quotes are organized into nine general topics. Here’s a sampling:
The Great Game of Golf: Golf is the best game in the world at which to be bad … It is the bad player who gets the most strokes. — A. A. Milne
Golf According To Non Golfers: Golf is a game intended to punish those who retire early. — Pete Darbo
Understanding Golfers: A good golfer has the determination to win and the patience to wait for the breaks. — Gary Player
Golf Etiquette: Golf is not just to win. It is to play like a gentleman and win. — Phil Mickelson
Putters, Drivers and Patience: Happiness is a long walk with a putter. — Greg Norman
On Caddies: I never kick my ball in the rough or improve my lie in a sand trap. For that I have a caddie. — Bob Hope
Putts, Puns and Golf Jokes: Don’t drink and drive. Don’t even putt. — Dean Martin
Hole In One: I used to play with a guy who cheated so badly that he had a hole-in-one and wrote down a zero on his scorecard. — Bob Bruce
As In Golf, So In Life: Golf is like life in a lot of ways. The most important competition is the one against yourself. — Bill Clinton.
The book has 137 pages in a 7.5 x 5 x 3/4 inch format. It is hardbound.
The Golfer’s Book of Wit and Wisdom obviously is neither a deep, nor a long read. It is, however, enjoyable. It’s the sort of book you might pick up for a minute or so, go to a random page and get a chuckle. I can see it as a restroom reader, or on the table at a dentist’s office.
I also think it would be a perfect gift for a golfer in your life. Best of all, it’s not terribly expensive. The cover price is just $12.50 and it is significantly discounted at several places online.
