It is Opening Day for the new PGA Tour season, with the Frys.Com Open.
This whole wraparound season thing seems more than a bit strange. After all, the Tour Championship was just two weeks ago. It is all going to take some getting used to.
Here’s a list of this fall and early winter’s events with FedEx Cup Points at stake:
Oct 10-13 Frys.Com Open
Oct 17-20 Shriners Hospital For Children Open
Oct 24-27 CIMB Classic (Kuala Lampur)
Oct 31 – Nov 3: HSBC Champions
Nov 7-10: McGladrey Classic
Nov 14-17: OHL CLassic at Mayakoba
After that, it rolls back around to the original season kickoff, the Tournament of Champions
Jan 3-6: Hyundai Tournament of Champions
It strikes me that if I were an older journeyman player, or a young aspirant, I would make an effort to get into as many of these fields as humanly possible. The big names who soak up victories around the Majors season will be on vacation, leaving the points and prizes (and that coveted exemption) open for the taking. A young guy on a hot streak (Jordan Speith, anyone?) could lock up a couple of victories and put everyone else in a hole at the start of the traditional season.
It’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I’ll be interested to see if this catches on with the fans. My prediction is only the die hard golfers will keep up with it.
