Oakland Hills New Clubhouse Under Construction
I have been fortunate to have played Oakland Hills’ North and South courses several times in my golf blogging career. Both courses are brilliant, and the South particularly so after the latest renovations. The members were welcoming, the staff cheerful and the experience always amazing.
What stands out most in my memories, though, is the old clubhouse. Its white siding, expansive porch and tall columns always reminded me of George Washington’s Mount Vernon, but with a gray roof instead of red.
The original clubhouse burned in 2022. It was the second largest wooden building in Michigan, behind only the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.
Fortunately, many — if not most — of the historical artifacts in the clubhouse were saved.
Now, Oakland Hills is undergoing a “Next 100” project setting up the club for a slew of USGA championships in the next few decades:
YEAR | CHAMPIONSHIP |
---|---|
2024 | U.S. Junior Amateur |
2029 | U.S. Women’s Amateur |
2031 | U.S. Women’s Open |
2034 | U.S. Open |
2038 | U.S. Girls’ Junior |
2042 | U.S. Women’s Open |
2047 | U.S. Amateur |
2051 | U.S. Open |
A rendering of the future clubhouse is below.
Oakland Hills reports that construction of the clubhouse is on schedule, with a anticipated opening in the first half of 2026.
