Origin of the Word: “Caddy”

What’s the origin of the wordy caddie? I just saw this version on a documentary on medieval life.

Apparently, when medieval Lords went out falconing, their “spare” birds were carried, hooded, on a wooden frame called a “cadge.” The poor lad who had to carry the frame around was known as a cadger. This, according to the historian on this show, is the origin of the word “caddie.”
