Spike TV Plans Golf Comedy Series

Spike TV apparently has ordered the pilot for a golf comedy called “The Back Nine,” which may turn out to be a television monument to bad taste. The show is about a a washed up former US Open champion who’s competing in mini tours around the country, accompanied by Tiger, his sex-addicted caddy.

No. Really.

John Schneider, of Dukes of Hazzard Fame, will play golfer Ronnie Barnes. Tiger may be played by Miguel Nunez.

It seems like an absolute slam on Mr. Woods, but apparently the script is more than a year old, and the Tiger character has been a sex addict from the start.

Did the writers know something? In a way this reminds me of the movie “Wag The Dog,” in which a President caught in a in a relationship with a young girl stages a military action to distract the public. In a case of life imitating art, less than a month after the film’s release, the Clinton-Lewinsky relationship became public knowledge. Weirdly, the girl in Wag the Dog bears an eerie similarity to Monica Lewinsky, right down to the beret. Then, just as the movie predicted, Clinton launched not one, but three military actions (Desert Fox, Infinite Reach, Allied Force) in the wake of the scandal.

  1. If Tiger the caddy is unmarried, then I don’t think it will be that bad in terms of comparisons to the other Tiger.  I hope the show is better than the brief description we’ve been given since Bo Duke/Pa Kent is involved.
