Here’s the famous third hole at Threetops, Treetops’ par three course. Called the Devil’s Drop, it measures 219 yards from the back tees and has a 145 foot vertical drop. With that drop, I had no idea what club to hit. My four iron fell about twenty yards short, landing on a steep slope. I chipped down and ran it nearly off the green. Two putts later, I was in for a bogey.

In retrospect, I think I should have used my five wood.
I have played Devil’s Drop many times, always from the white tees (cause I’m 74). Usually play a 4 iron and have had good success. My average score on the hole is 3.3
