Tom Watson made a very cool backward chip at this past weekend’s Toshiba Classic. And while it’s all well and good to admire the play, I know it’s a shot that anyone can master—because I’ve used it myself.
Study the clip a couple of times, and then try it out the next time you’re on the course. It actually comes in handy. I’ve never used it to get onto a green, but have used it several times to get back to the fairway after a wayward ball got to the wrong side of a tree. It’s a lot better than trying to wrap oneself around the tunk.
