For the first two rounds of the US Open, the USGA likes to do creative groupings, such as “great whiners” or “cigar smokers”.
Here are a few that have been identified for this year.
In one group, Phil Mickelson has been paired iwth Thomas Bjorn and Tim Clark—the two guys who were runner-up to him in the last two majors.
There is a short-but-straight hitters group that consists of Corey Pavin, Fred Funk and Allen Doyle.
And a grip ‘em and rip ‘em group of JB Holmes, Camilo Villegas and Scott Hend.
