1970 Aerial Photo of Washtenaw Golf Club
This 1970 aerial photo of Washtenaw Golf Club shows a course that has substantially fewer trees than the 2024 version, and that also is missing large ponds along the Paint Creek basin.
The photo is part of a collection maintained by the Southeastern Michigan Council of Governments. The original photos of all of southeast Michigan were taken by DTE as part of a periodic energy planning survey.
The photo slider below shows the changes between the 1949 photo and the 1970 image.
Of note to me is that the sixteenth green (bottom of images) near the pond no longer has a circle of bunkers protecting its front. It also looks to me as though a new green is in place on fourteen (right side of bottom. One of the bunkers that currently next to the green is clearly present.
Following this is a comparison of the 1970 image and the 2024 course.
I find these photos an interesting study in the evolution of a golf course.
