GolfBlogger’s Gift Guide: Food and Health

Here are a few gift guide suggestions in the food and health category. I’ve personally tested all of these and give them my seal of approval.

Altwell CBD Products

Altwell CBD Products
Grade: A
Teachers’ Comments: I think the products work. If you’re a believer in the efficacy of CBD, Altwell’s attention to quality control makes this a good bet.
Manufacturer’s Site

Altwell offers a thoughtful line of CBD products ranging from soft gels, to gummies, protein powders, tinctures and balms. They have a couple of nice packages of their products that would make a good gift.

Attention to detail on quality control makes Altwell stand out for me. The CBD content is derived from handpicked flowers with no stems or leaves. The company says it contains offers a variety of compounds, terpenes and flavanoids with only trace amounts of THC. The plants are grown organically in Colorado, tracked from source to packing and thoroughly tested. Altwell will provide testing certificates upon demand.

Nirvana HMB Water Review Pictured bottle of nirvana hmb water

Nirvana HMB Water Review

Nirvana HMB Muscle Wellness Water
Grade: A?
Teachers’ Comments: Great tasting water; no way to be sure about the claims of muscle wellness.
Manufacturer’s Website
On Amazon

Nirvana offers great tasting spring water infused with HMB as a suplement for muscle wellness.

HMB (Hydroxymethylbutyrate) is produced when the body breaks down leucine, an amino acid that is a protein building block. The idea behind Nirvana water is that the infused HMB can speed up recovery from exercise, reducing fatigue and soreness. At the same time, it is said to increase muscle protein synthesis.

It might seem a bit weird to give a case of water for a present, but as a golfer who also spends a great deal of time working out, I actually would appreciate the gesture.

Old Trapper Beef and Cheese Sticks
Grade: B
Teacher’s Comments: A tasty dose of protein, but perhaps a little too much kick for some folk.
Manufacturer’s site

How about a stocking stuffer snack that’s high on protein instead of sugar?

Old Trapper’s Beef and Cheese sticks are tasty and portable. I think they’re great as a snack halfway through a round, but they’d also be just the thing for an afternoon of football.

Canteen Spirits

Canteen Spirits
Grade: A
Teachers’ Comments: Refreshing. Actual Vodka. Not a malt beverage.

Most of the beer alternatives — seltzers and the like — are just varieties of malt beverages.

Canteen Spirits on the other hand are an actual highball: a flavored sparkling water mixed with real vodka.

Vodka content in the 12 ounce Canteen Spirits cans works out to 5% ABV, so it is in line with a beer. Canteen Spirits, however, have zero sugars, zero carbs and just 99 calories.

The five spirits now available from Canteen Spirits Vodka Soda are Watermelon, Strawberry, Ruby Red (Grapefruit), Lime, Cucumber Mint and Black Cherry.

DriveForce DF-18 Performance Hydration Review
Grade: B
Teacher’s Comments: Helps beat those hot, dehydrating rounds, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the flavor

Manufacturer’s Site

The importance of staying hydrated cannot be understated. Whether you are playing a round or working out, you’ve got to replace those fluids and electrolytes.

When mixed with water, DriveForce DF-18 can help keep your body at peak performance. The supplement contains a large number of ingredients said to improve sports performance: fluid balancers to manage heat stress, nutrients to improve blood flow and others that are said to help with focus.

I was not a huge fan of the Pineapple Passion Fruit flavor, but your mileage may vary.
