Nearly everything I’ve read suggests that one of the best things you can do for yourself as you age is to work on a program of strength training. Men, for example, lose 5% of their muscle mass for each decade after 30. Strength training can reduce the risk of heart attack, osteoporosis, sarcopenia, stroke and falls.
Here’s what I know: Since I started lifting weights several years ago, I have never felt better. My back pain has disappeared (knock wood) and I can walk a round of golf pretty much without breaking a sweat or feeling a muscle twinge.
