Friend of the site and golf teacher extraordinaire Phil Lawrence has alerted me to a local tournament this Sunday:
There is an organization called the Michigan – Ontario Golf Teachers Tour (MOGTT) and in 2009 it has 4 events (two each in Michigan and Ontario), plus a year-end competition (The Kelly Cup) between Michigan and Ontario golf teachers.
This Sunday there is a tournament at Prestwick Golf Course (Prestwick Village, M-59 between Hartland and Highland).
This is a relatively small “tour”, and although it is open to USGTF instructors and other instructors (high school and college coaches, etc. can play as amateur or professional), participation is almost always only USGTF members. To help expand participation a Pro-Am event was successfully held in the Port Huron area earlier this year.
A portion of the tour’s annual budget is provided to specific charities.
At present there are no “sponsors”. For this event there are 24 participants, each paying his/her own way.
In place of stroke play, the tournament uses the Stableford Point System. This speeds up play and provides opportunity for all to be more competitive, with birdies or eagles helping one’s point total.
The 1st Tee Time is 11 AM.
You can visit Phil’s site here. He recently did a swing tempo and swing speed analysis for me, which was very instructive. I’ll have more about that when I return from “Up North” (where internet access is limited to dial-up)
