Tiger Would Consider Joining The European Tour

Lots of Tiger news coming out of Turkey. First he says he’d like to be Ryder Cup Captain, then he says he thinks he might join the European Tour. The impetus, apparently, is that playing on the Ryder Cup, President’s Cup and Seve Trophy now will count as “starts” toward the minimum needed for European Tour Membership. The magic number for membership is thirteen.

With the Cups now counting, Tiger is nearly there. Ryder Cup, President’s Cup, four Majors, four WGC events and his annual appearance or two in the Middle East takes him to twelve. He’d only have to add one or two events. And that shouldn’t be an issue, since he can ride the appearance fee gravy train for inspiration. He could show up a week early for the Open Championship and play the Scottish Open with Phil. In fact, he could spend the next several years rotating through the various European national championships and claim a pile. That would look pretty cool in the record books: in addition to the US Open, he holds an Irish Open, Scottish Open, Italian Open, Malaysian Open, etc.

  1. I think it would be good for the game of golf to see Tiger playing a few more events over in Europe.

It would also benefit his game to be playing in different conditions every now and again.
